Driving in Tameside

Tameside runs from the edge of Manchester up into the Pennine foothills. Metrolink runs into Ashton-under-Lyne, the M60 and M67 meet near Denton, and town centres like Ashton and Hyde bring busy junctions and roundabouts. Towards Stalybridge and Mossley the roads get steep and narrow, which means plenty of hill starts and careful clutch control in a manual.

Your test in Tameside

Tameside has no driving test centre of its own. The nearest are Bredbury in Stockport and Chadderton in Oldham, and you can book any centre that suits you.

Before your test, your instructor takes you through a mock test on the roads around the centre you've booked, run the way an examiner runs it. But we never teach a route: DVSA doesn't publish them, and they change. We teach you to drive well anywhere, so you're ready for whatever the examiner chooses. Find a test centre on GOV.UK.
